LockTime

Support

Help with LockTime, the Mac app that lets you search everything you have seen on your screen.

Getting in touch

Write to support@locktime.org. Say which version you have (LockTime ▸ About LockTime) and whether it came from the App Store or this website. Please never send screenshots of your history that show anything private.

LockTime says it cannot record the screen

Open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Screen & System Audio Recording, turn LockTime on, then quit and reopen LockTime. macOS hands a new permission to the next launch, not to the app that asked.

Where is my history kept, and how do I delete it?

On your Mac only. Settings ▸ History shows the folder, how long screenshots are kept and the most space they may take, and deletes a day, an application or everything. Removing the app does not remove its history; delete the folder Settings shows if you want it gone too.

Does anything leave my Mac?

Not unless you turn on Ask's web search. The privacy policy lists everything, plainly.

What is different in the App Store version?

It runs in Apple's sandbox, which rules out four things the downloaded version does: saving the address of the page in your browser and excluding websites, saving vault items to 1Password, the MCP server for assistants, and updating itself (the App Store does that). Everything else is the same. The two versions keep separate histories.

Ask does not write answers

Answers need Apple Intelligence (macOS 26 with it turned on) or Ollama on your Mac, chosen in Settings ▸ Intelligence. Without either, Ask still finds the screenshots that answer your question and shows them.
